Code of Conduct promotional games

The Justice Department wanted to curb gaming on television, where viewers can dial in for a fee and compete for prizes. So-called “sweepstakes,” in which free prizes are raffled off as part of a marketing campaign, were also hit by this new regulation. Work was done on behalf of the food industry to develop a code of conduct for promotional games of chance, which became part of the Gaming Act. The code of conduct imposes a number of due diligence requirements and restrictions on games of chance offered to promote a product or service. The law prohibits the offering of games of chance without a license, but promotional games of chance are allowed provided they comply with the code of conduct.
