Underground parking garage

To reduce the high parking pressure in Amsterdam’s De Pijp residential area, it was decided to build an underground parking garage with 600 parking spaces under the water of the Boerenwetering. Marco Kreuger was administratively responsible for preparing the decision-making process and the public tender. After construction of the garage, on-street parking spaces will be eliminated, creating more space for pedestrians and cyclists. This will reduce parking nuisance and give the public space around the North-South Line a major quality boost. The decision-making and tendering process was very complex, in which not only the technical risks had to be made manageable, but there was also a robust public discussion about the usefulness and necessity of the parking garage. The new parking garage opened in 2018.
