Care for South
The introduction of the Social Support Act (Wmo) gave municipalities greater responsibility in the area of care and support for people with disabilities. Marco Kreuger was administratively responsible for developing a new care policy, based on strengthening residents’ own direction. The memorandum anticipated the decentralization of support from the AWBZ, as a result of which the welfare policy of the district of Amsterdam Zuid had to focus on new target groups (including people with psychiatric and mild intellectual disabilities), informal care and support, organizing care close to home and the future care demand for the elderly. This included a pilot project in Amsterdam Buitenveld with district nursing under the direction of the general practitioner, in cooperation with a health insurer.
